STORY-OUTLINE
|
Joseph Bish was born in England but at the beginning of the war he was a labourer in Douglas Shire and enlisted at Port Douglas in February 1915. He embarked Brisbane per H.M.A.T. "Aeneas" on the 29/06/1915 & proceeded to Gallipoli 04/09/1915. After Gallipoli he was assigned to the Western Front, arriving Marseilles in March 1916. On the 09/09/1916 he was wounded, injured finger, in France. He rejoined the 25th Battalion on 30th September but on the 05/11/1916 was reported missing. On the 25/07/1917 a Court Enquiry found previously reported missing now "Killed in action". Temporary Corporal Joseph Bish was buried in the ANZAC Section 3rd Echelon G.H.Q.B.E.F.. He is on the Memorial Scroll "Where the Australians Rest" and Memorial Plaque.
