In 1978 it was sold to Qunaba Mill and renamed Dobbin. In 1971 the locomotive was sold to a train enthusiast and Bundy went to Melbourne. In 1977 the owner sold the train and it returned to Bundaberg where it was privately owned but was being repaired by apprentices at the East Bundaberg TAFE. The Dutch subsequently sent out expeditions, but the most important discoveries in the region were made by Capt Cook (1768-1771). In 1768 the great explorer was put in command of the Endeavour, chartered by the Royal Society to take astronomers to the Pacific to observe the transit of Venus. On the return he visited New Zealand then landed in Botany Bay on the east coast of Australia in May 1770. He called the land New South Wales from a fancied resemblance to the north coast of the Bristol Channel, and then made a voyage of discovery up the coast, returning to England in June of the following year. BUMP TRACK - Make it stand out According to a local historian, Diggers’ Bridge was built over the Mowbray River by returned soldiers for the Douglas Shire Council. No date of completion can be found but it was finished by 1923. A new bridge was built in mid 1940 to the eastern downstream side of the original bridge. In 2010, the girders and the transom were replaced. A third bridge was completed in 2019 by Douglas Shire Council.
